My Formula for the Coziest Bed Layers

I have struggled with sleep off and on and I have found that cozy bed layers are key to a good night's sleep.

It has taken me a while to get the right formula for bedding layers. I, of course, want it to look pretty, but it also has to be very comfortable. The combo of both can be hard to achieve. Let's start with the bedding no one sees: the mattress protector. It is a good thing to have to protect your mattress. What I have learned is that even though you don't see when getting into bed or feel it it can either work for you or against you. I recently changed to a bamboo mattress protector and this small change has made my bedding layers perfect. Bamboo has a lot of great qualities but what have really helped me in the better sleep department is their thermoregulation and hypoallergenic properties. This small change to a bamboo mattress protector has helped me not get so hot and I no long wake up with a stuffy noise from allergies.

The next layer, and I think the most important is sheets. These are what touch you so a good fabric is key. No one wants hot, scratchy sheets. If you splurge on any part of the bedding I would splurge on sheets. My all time favorite sheets ever are Boll & Branch linen sheets. They are pricey but what I love is that they are a good year round choice. My second favorite sheet choice is Boll & Branch signature sheets. They feel just like a high end hotel. My third choice, if you are looking for a more affordable option, is from Costco, Kirkland Signature 680 Thread Count.

Now comes the extra layers. The second most important bedding, in my opinion, is the comforter you choose that goes on top of the sheets. My favorite one is Boll & Branch Down Alternative Quilted Bed Blanket. Is breathes well. It is not too warm, but has a little weight to it. A light quilt would work as well. The final layers I use are a duvet and duvet cover folded at the end of the bed for extra warmth if needed and a cozy blanket. The layers are functional but also add visual interest and makes for a pretty bed.

Lastly, are the pillows. We have a king bed so I have six, standard size pillows to use. I sleep on my size and have my one favorite side sleeping pillow. Then I layer three euro pillows, two decorative size king pillows in front of the euro pillows. I think finish with a long, lumber throw pillow.

Now, little extras that aren't needed but also aid in a good night sleep that I use are a bed scrunchie and an alarm clock. The scrunchie makes my bottom sheet super tight. The alarm clock is more peaceful wake up than my phone. I hope this helps. Anything underlined is shop-able and I will link my favorites below as well.

I have a few codes to use for a discount. Anything from Boll & Branch is 15% off with code: 40North. If you shop at bedscrunchie my code is: Simply40North.
